EX-players from Wath Brow Hornets and Seaton Rangers dug out their boots once more at the weekend to take part in a Masters festival at Red Beck Road.
Organiser Matt Jefferson was pleased with the festival, despite a couple of teams pulling out just prior to the event leaving just Seaton and Wath Brow to compete.
And he says there will be a masters series in the summer in West Cumbria.
“I thought it went well considering we were meant to have five teams but only ended up with two,” said Jefferson.
“Seaton and Wath Brow did well on the day and the players showed they still had a bit of talent.
“This was just a taster session for a summer series that will run from about May and we are trying to tie as many teams into it as possible.
“It will be a regular competition, rather than a one-off event, with games held at all the competing clubs.
“We will also run a touch rugby competition alongside for parents of different age groups to get them involved.”
On the day Wath Brow scored two tries through Lee Power and Alfie Gregg but in the true spirit of masters, all games are called a draw.
Jefferson thanked Cumbria Community Foundation for their support and Wath Brow Hornets for staging the day.
